KNOWELTON RING, DORSET

Paganism and Christianity sit cheek by jowl in Southern England.  The ruin of 12^th Century Knowelton Church stands within the remains of a 4000 year-old Neolithic henge in remote Dorset.  Did the medieval church builders recognize the power of this ancient circle as the place to construct their own church?  We will never know.  Knowelton Church was abandoned many centuries ago.  Why?  Perhaps it is because a phantom procession of lights has been seen entering the circle on the ancient pagan festivals of Beltane and Samhain.
